About Irvine
Irvine Wines was established back in 1983 by Jim Irvine, who succeeded in putting Australian Merlot at the forefront of the world’s very best. Known as the "King of Merlot," Jim's dedication to excellence in winemaking helped elevate Australian Merlot to global recognition. In 2014, Jim sold the Irvine label to the Wade and Miles families. Since then, Irvine Wines has continued to grow and evolve.
Irvine is re-emerging even stronger, led by a team that blends world-class Barossa winemaking and viticultural traditions with a track record of excellence in innovation. With a total of 400 acres of premium vineyards in Barossa and Eden Valley, Irvine Wines is one of the largest privately-owned premium grape growers in the region.
Peter Miles is a fourth-generation Barossa vigneron, having taken over the family business from his late father, Brian, in the late 1980s. Along with a love for viticulture and respect for Barossa soils, Peter inherited from his father an ability to identify and develop new vineyard holdings. When Peter became the custodian, the Irvine estate was 135 acres, and today it is over 400 acres. Peter’s wife Rebecca and their son Ben, work with Peter to keep the family tradition alive, nurturing their vineyards and growing premium grapes for Irvine Wines.
Lachlan is a dynamic and professional winemaker with twenty years’ experience making wine for some of Australia’s top wineries. His passion for producing wines of quality and distinction is especially evident in his work for Rockford, where he spent six years crafting their wine with precision and love. Starting as assistant and finishing as head winemaker, he was undeniably instrumental in developing a modern Rockford style. Lachlan has fed his interest in adventure and travel with vintages in Ribera del Duro, Oregon, Valpolicella and (most exotic of all) the Adelaide Hills. Lachlan is passionate about making wines of distinction, believing that wine is made in the vineyard.
Our six vineyards span some of the most esteemed Barossa and Eden Valley regions, and are home to some of the world’s oldest and finest Shiraz and Riesling plantations. Four generations of the Miles’ family expertise have overseen these vineyards, ensuring the fruit is of the highest quality, harvested with precision, and crafted with care.
An inherent understanding and respect for provenance together with an ongoing commitment to excellence will ensure the Irvine legacy endures.
