Vintage 2025: A Year of Resilience and Remarkable Fruit

As the sun sets on another vintage, we’re taking a moment to reflect on what has been one of the most challenging - yet ultimately rewarding - seasons we've faced here in Eden Valley and the Barossa.

A Brutal Beginning

Vintage 2025 will be remembered as one of extremes. It began with a devastating frost in September 2024, hitting just as the vines were waking up for the growing season. Our Ruth’s Block suffered approximately 80% damage, and Casey’s Block was almost completely wiped out. It was a tough blow, one that left us uncertain about how the vintage would unfold.

Heatwaves and High-Speed Ripening

Then came the heat. Late January and early February saw scorching temperatures ranging from 38°C to 41°C. These hot, dry conditions accelerated the ripening process significantly. Our first pick came early, on the 4th of February - one of the earliest starts we’ve seen in recent years. With sugar levels climbing quickly, timing was everything. Our vineyard and winery teams worked around the clock to make sure fruit was picked at optimum ripeness.

A Race Against the Sun

Despite the early frost and the intense summer heat, the fruit that survived showed surprising concentration and character. Yields were down, but quality was up - a testament to the resilience of our vines and the careful work done in the vineyard. The dry conditions helped prevent disease pressure, allowing clean, flavour-packed fruit to come through.

We wrapped up harvest at the end of March, and every batch of fruit tells a story of grit, perseverance, and passion.

What to Expect in the Bottle

While it’s still early days in the winery, the 2025 vintage is already showing promise. Expect wines with bold flavour, purity, and depth - wines that reflect the intensity of the season and the resilience of the people behind them. This will be a vintage that rewards patience and curiosity.
