He was made an Officer in The Order of Australia in 1983 for his service to the Australian Army as a senior commander. In 1983 General Grey was appointed Commissioner, Australian Federal Police for a period of five years.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eGeneral Grey was known as a ‘Soldiers General’; he led his soldiers with wisdom, care and respect.
